I was educated at the Shrewsbury School of Art and have taught summer school and extension studies in portraiture at Canterbury University for the past decade.
I class myself as a good technician, know how to paint and enjoy passing on what I know.
I taught at Stratford High School, Patea High School & Patea Primary School, and have been involved in various Education Programmes with Feats (a private organization, youth orientated).
I am very passionate about teaching and believe teaching art is about discovery & empowering the artist within.
I am very experienced in doing portraits and have sold many of my works.
I have had the pleasure of visiting many great art galleries in Europe and New Zealand; this has extended my passion for teaching and sharing my love of art.
I have a Fine Arts Degree in Painting from the Acadamia di Brera in Milan.
I've studied at the Motley Theatre Design School in London and taught Art for 10 years at secondary schools in Greece.
My art has been exhibited in Athens, Paris, Cyprus and NZ.
I was born in Japan and have lived in Palmerston North for more than a decade.
I have had over 30 exhibitions in New Zealand, USA and Japan.
I was selected Overall Winner for the Manawatu Arts Review in 2011, and was a finalist in the New Zealand Portrait Gallery’s Adam Award in 2012, and the Parkin Drawing Award in 2013.
I hold a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Iowa, USA and am represented by Zimmerman Art Gallery, Palmerston North.
After graduating in design/illustration with a BCGD (Hons) and qualifying as a teacher, I taught visual arts at both tertiary and secondary levels.
I am presently a painter and graphic designer and live in the country on the outskirts of Levin with my novelist/fabric artist partner, Carole. Our three children fled home long ago.
Drawing and painting most often in watercolours, a passion for the outdoors results in my subject matter naturally inclining toward landscapes & seascapes.
I have been a secondary school teacher for 25 years, teaching a range of disciplines including painting, printmaking, photography, sculpture, digital art and art history.
I specialise in encaustic painting ie melting beeswax with dammar resin and adding pigment. I have been exhibiting my work since the late 1960s.
